An airmail refers to the carriage of mail by air. Today, all airmail and airfreight are handled by aircraft as standard. However, the invention of the airmail is not exactly new, already the ancient Egyptians used carrier pigeons for the transmission of letters and messages. The first official postal flight with an aircraft of the German Reichspost took place on 12 May 1912 and with the invention of the aircraft, a new era of airmail began. Today, many industries rely on practical air freight logistics, as it provides a reliable service at relatively low air freight costs.
